hello everyone, im deciding on what computer im gonna use on beta opt-in... core 2 quad with sparkle 9400GT(1gb pci-e)  or core 2 duo with hd radeon 3300(256mb pci-e)? pls tell me which of the two computers I will use in beta opt in... so I can increase my chances on having a beta key... sorry for bad english  :(
I just got in beta with a dual core and it seems like recent invites have been to lower powered systems. I would recommend the quad though, because they should start inviting those soon and the dual wave might already be over.

hmm, since Starcrack already has a launcher and all, isn't it possible for the launcher to like... put in the IP Address of a person who also has the launcher up and running as well; like those network fighting games for the PC (like melty blood, touhou 12.3, etc) where the host waits for a person/s to join in? :x just a random thought

how to determine the number of players waiting; well why not just start 1 v 1, then maybe the launcher will check the map name/data if there should be any more players joining in that hosted game.

great job on the AI so far :D

If it was that easy we would have it by now. Clearly, it's not. People who don't know how LAN works should stop offering this suggestions...

I second this, although it is funny reading these comments.

But saying that I have just thought of an idea that might work,. I'm no l.a.n. expert however we did this with another compeltely unrelated game and it totally worked! Just add -connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to the launcher .exe and like totally replace the x's with the ip of the guy runnin a launcher and it will totally work. Now this may be completely wrong, but its just a thought that i came up with that obviusly noone else has thought of.

Well DarkBlizz has yet another SC2 Beta Key to give out!  We're looking for suggestions on possible contest ideas before we launch the contest.

So let us know your idea!    8)

SC2 costume contest.. with a video of you wearing it in public... that would get some good laughs!

^ And WoW server's get shutdown on a fairly progressive rate.
As to why the big fish aren't being taken down, beats me, but it is far and away illegal so its only a matter of time.
The servers aren't being shut down by blizz, that is shy the big fish still aren't down.
Quote from: Rain[sun] on April 18, 2010, 05:09:05 PMA pirate will always be a pirate, if you're poor enough to not buy the game and play it illegally then i really do feel sorry for you

I play Sc2 in windowed mode so i can change my music.
Also, the video could be fake, but I mean, the people saying "FAKE" are wasting their time cause nobody cares and furthermore you have no concrete proof that it is indeed fake. While funny, the idiots who donated their keys do deserve this to be fake, but anything can be cracked/created with enough time/resourcefulness; that being said, screaming fake just makes you look like an idiot

lmao

No, screaming real just makes you look like an idiot.

Very few have just said fake, evidence has been presented and the other side just ignores it, they are the ones who look like idiots.

Now I know who the people are that get duped into those stupid infomercial products.

Do you happen to want a slap-chop?

Quoteclueless sheep, did you donate a cdkey now you must defend your stupidity?
Nope. I wouldn't be looking after their work if I had a CD key in the first place. I'm just pointing out how idiotic some of them "wahh, it's a fake" arguments are here. Want to nitpick every single detail assuming it's fake? I can play the same game too saying it might be true. Is it worth my time and yours? Surely not.

At least I'm not such an idiot to quote a long post to above me to say only a one-liner.

QuoteNot asking for a pro player, I'm just asking for somebody that can show basic human intellectual and ability.

Even if they work over the internet, a million times more convincing of a video would be one of a guy with 2 PC's side by side, just moving units and stuff and showing a reaction on another PC... one person could do that!
Fair enough. I would have been more happy to see some units strolling around each other.

Another case to consider is the case that the person who recorded it might not have 2 computers. And even if he had, maybe one of them isn't able to handle Starcraft 2 at a good framerate.

QuoteSheep shouldn't stray from the herd, a wolf might get you! :fight:
Show it to me. Give me one good, well-worded argument that the video is a fake, and I'll change my mind. Nobody has been capable of doing that so far.

I already did.. you just keep agreeing then making up a excuse that makes little to no sense, or you simply ignore it.  :bangshead: You will refuse to change your mind even though evidence points towards the truth.

I would hate to have you on a court room jury, you are now continuing for the sake of argument whilst ignoring every argument placed in opposition to your belief.

just wanted to say i think its pretty funny that people are calling gamewiz a "code-gen cheerleader" continuing to say they are fake and blah blah blah... for the people that have been around here on darkblizz like myself (didnt post alot but read about everything) you'll notice Gamewiz is one of the more respected members of this community before the entire code-gen thing came into the scene he simply was getting tired of people complaining and taking other's hard work for granted. (at the time this junk was over simple stuff like ai) i just find it funny that someone such as gamewiz that in my oppinion many people agreed with is now being criticized ect. loving the blank arguements about him being the only one to defend code-gen, man people need to read around the forums a bit more they have alot of support but then again i think all these topics are just trolling...

and that my 2 cents
My main criticism of him is coming to another forum to make fun of a member from the teknogods forum because he was getting owned in a debate by flex's use of facts and knowledge.

He seems to have disappeared, I wonder if he is on another forum complaining about flex.

Why is everyone categorizing Code-Gen's work as a server emulator? It doesn't emulate a Battle.net game, they've reverse enginereed the network gameplay and decrypted each of the packets. The point isn't to emulate a Battle.net server, like other teams are doing, but rather get a network game with something as simple as the video showed.

QuoteThey have a whole team of starcraft 2 emulator developers, but they can   only find one that knows how to play. That's like having an army, but   only one guy knows how to shoot his gun. Impossible.
That has nothing to do with the skill of being a hacker/programmer. Do you think some of the most famous warez groups even care about playing the game? It's a challenge, just look at the latest Ubisoft's DRM Cracking. Also, you can't guarantee such a smooth gameplay in a video like you'd expect from a pro. They said the game was pretty unstable by now, so maybe they just avoided doing much stuff at the same time fearing that it could get overloaded and crash, hence, cutting the video by half. :P

When does the other client connect?  Why would client #1 choose races   and names of all players?  This is just plain retarded.
Maybe because the client application hasn't been coded fully, and they just did a quick hack to get something playable. Everyone was bugging these guys for a gameplay video for weeks, don't complain if it doesn't appear finished yet.

QuoteI laughed on the sending of packets(?) and the smooth loading which is   very FAKE
If you didn't notice, the graphical quality of the game was very reduced. Maybe just to get some better FPS, better synchronization, and to record the game smoothly. Of course you can expect the game to load fast if you reduce the details of the game.

QuoteEither way, there are many ways to prove it's a real emu...and I saw   nothing to prove it.  The biggest red flag remains to be the fact that   he had to move the cursor off screen after clicking "Launch Starcraft   II".  Clicking that button on the supposed emu clearly did nothing.
I don't really see the point in considering this is fake when they have to run an external game. After all, look at one of those server emulators by some chinese folk. Their emulator doesn't have to launch Starcraft II itself, it injects in memory when the game is loaded. Just like the Code-Gen folk explained.

QuoteWhy not shoot a video with a hand held camera showing two computers   beside each other, with two humans playing each other?
I think the Code-Gen team works over the Internet, not via a LAN connection. Maybe that's the reason they couldn't record it. Still, I think they should've given some more proof.
Not asking for a pro player, I'm just asking for somebody that can show basic human intellectual and ability.

Even if they work over the internet, a million times more convincing of a video would be one of a guy with 2 PC's side by side, just moving units and stuff and showing a reaction on another PC... one person could do that! :ticked:

It was not the smartest thing for them to announce this project on a public website.  Whenever one works on high-profile hack like a Bnet 2 emulator, one needs to operate in total secrecy.  What did they think, that they will just start developing a product that threatens the SC2 economic model (Blizzard removed LAN play for a reason), and Blizzard will just look the other way while they are making some real progress?

One must only release the product when it is complete, and even then, you want to leak it, not post it on a website that can be linked to you.  This is how the successful hacks have been released...

I am sure there are other teams working on this stuff, and will release it when ready.  They may also wait till the retail release, so that Blizzard would not adapt to their method before the retail even goes gold.

You have no experience with blizz emus obviously...

Lets do some step by step logic here so nobody can get confused:

What is Blizzards biggest cash cow, that they want to maintain un-emulated? WoW

WoW teams have been working out in the open for YEARS now emulating WoW.

So why, after years of open work by other teams, on blizzard's biggest money maker, would they have to maintain total secrecy about a emulator that will emulate something blizzard isn't making a dime off of?

No reason except they are not nearly as far as they attempt to represent.

if you're in the beta, why even post your opinion on a matter that has no meaning to you? honestly, it'd be like me (an american) talking about why England needs to lower taxes. it just doesn't fucking matter to me.

i'm not in the beta, and i don't see ANY reason why they would be faking this. Like it has been said so many times, they haven't been accepting ANYTHING. no ads on their website, no spare beta keys, no donations. NOTHING. why would they do that and actually go through the effort of faking it? can you give me one legitimate reason? no? then stop saying they're fake. you can't prove it either way, the only people who can is Code-gen themselves. it does us no good to sit here and bitch at eachother, either the LAN hack will come out or it won't.

I think that the team is real.

They are just lying about progress. I think they have VERY little, but are misrepresenting it with fake videos. They have been total dicks to the community, if you saw the teknogods forum, and they have not shared anything. They may have some basic stuff, but they are not as far as they say, and surely nowhere near the end.

I post about it because I want to see projects finished, just because I am in the beta does not mean that I am in the beta with the people that I want to be in it with.
