General Discussion / Re: GS PreOrder
April 23, 2010, 02:59:02 PM
FYI if you have not received your beta key don't bother e-mailing. you need to call and harass them. they responded to my original e-mail and stated that they would "review" my case and send me a ruling in up to 2 business days. i called and got my key within 5 minutes.

yea i have started e-mailing them now. sent 2 already and just gotten bullshit responses from some dude named "Bryce". Of course a GS employee would be named Bryce. great.

I have always despised gamestop as well. i wish i didn't find out about the deal until the next day because i bet amazon is doing a way better job. oh well, i guess its time to get on the phone with them. i don't want them to make it to the weekend without sending me one because that means i wont see it till monday or won't see it at all based on my dealings with the business in the past.

I'm sure there are a limited supply of them and they have just decided to only send it out to those who are obnoxious enough. well i'm about to be obnoxious too  :D  I wish blizzard didn't hook such a crappy company up with this offer. I'd even rather give my money to best buy than these assholes.

Has anyone received their key from gamestop in the last 24 hours? I ordered online at 11PM EST on April 21 and have received nothing to this point. I am thinking about cancelling the order and going to preorder it in store...

look how many keys popped up on ebay since this offer started. looks like a lot of people tried to sell the key and end up getting SC2 pretty much for free.
#5
yep, because most people will decide to give their friend invite to random guys who have 1 or 2 posts on an internet forum instead of an actual friend (or ebay).
#6
I don't think that works because blizzard is not e-mailing keys anymore. A lot of people haven't gotten an e-mail at all. You just log into your b.net account and it shows SC2 beta if you have been accepted.

sadly it looks like we are the only ones who share this opinion.

kind of wish i didn't drop out of computer science in college

Quick idea for people developing launchers...

I am currently using a launcher that lets me select which AI I want to play against and has an AI folder with Base SC2data files, I'm sure that's pretty similar to how most are set up.

There are a lot of good AI's available now, and I think launchers should add a feature for random AI selection. Also let users customize which races a certain AI is good for (so we don't random a Protoss-only AI that gets Zerg as the race). This way, when starting a game I won't know if I am playing against 6.1.1, AMAI, 1337's fast expanding AI, Darkzero's protoss AI, etc. Granted, they all have their chat spam to announce which one you are playing, but that is easy to remove.

Not knowing what the opponents starting build will be is a fundamental part of the game that makes it dynamic. Playing a 1v1 on a large map we do not always find our opponent before we have to make substantial build decisions. I haven't yet bothered to learn the intricacies of what makes each one of these AI's different but I have noticed how long each one seems to give you at the beginning of the game and believe it would be more fun if we could play them without having any idea about what the opening strategy will be. HOpe you agree

the fact that the AI scripting language is so open gives me a lot of hope for future development. i think eventually users will be able to make nearly unbeatable AI's that don't cheat at all. Sometimes the world's best chess players have been challenged by playing against a computer AI. I wonder if there will be scripts so advanced that pros will have serious difficulty beating them.

the AI definitely upgrades. I saw 1 upgrade on ground weapons and zealot charge

General Discussion / Re: Just bought Starcraft 2
March 04, 2010, 06:31:52 PM
really bad time to buy IMO. Basic economics man, supply and demand. when beta first came out, $300+ was the going rate for keys. Some even went as high as $400 or more. Once the second wave hit (blizzcon attendees), the # of auctions on ebay jumped threefold. I remember once seeing 180 results for "starcraft 2 beta". The price was going for barely over 200 and some people were making off with it for under 200. everyone knows another wave of invites will hit in a matter of days, the supply on ebay will be outrageously high again and thus the price will fall again. i was thinking about picking a key up off of ebay as well but it just isn't worth it at the current price. If 10,000 invites go out tomorrow you are going to be hurtin when you see the avg closing price on ebay. Just check the box for completed listings on the ebay search to get an idea of the avg closing price.

didnt wc3 make a group of units selected together all move at the pace of the slowest unit? this means that regardless of units having different speeds they would all travel the same speed as a group.

i havent really paid attention to this being the case in SC2. i guess it's not. cant say i really care
