Title: Best Launcher in your opinion.
Post by: Mohed on March 18, 2010, 02:33:22 PM
  I want to thank all the ppl that have taken the time to write the launchers so the rest of us can enjoy this great game. With that been said. What is the best launcher in your opinion so far and why ?

StarLauncher 0.41
Love it, small simple and easy to use, and it works very well.

Not a very nice look but at the end, allot of the other launchers are to "big" with all their options and graphix, i just want to practice, so it works for me.

Mine is Valkirie's StarCraft 2 Beta Launcher.

I love the way it looks and runs and has some cool "extra" features.

Keep up the good work dude!  :thumbsup:

I use both StarLauncher and Valkirie's Beta Launcher, StarLauncher for the team play and awesome no map repacking features, and Valkirie's launcher is pretty much standard for me now :P absolutely beautiful UI and map download and the ranking systems.
but a good job to everyone who devote time and effort into this! thank you!

I agree with the above. If I want to do some teamplay I use the Starlauncher, for all the other games I play I use Valkirie's launcher.

I only tried Vernam7's launcher and Valks' launcher, but the latter is by far better. Some reasons:

1. Can customize AI and name them whatever you want
2. Automatically works with latest version of the game
3. Can choose what version you want
4. Doesn't have an extremely pretentious and arrogant name (BEST tool? come on...)
5. Doesn't require installation

While I admire Vernam7's support for his launcher (rapidly updating whenever new AI/base version is out), it's really not as good as Valk's launcher for more advanced users. I do realize that he has made an extraordinary amount of effort into making his launcher work for the technologically illiterate user though.

I went from Vernam's to Valkirie to StarLauncher, which I use almost   exclusively now: it is simple and it gets the job done.

  I would still recommend Vernam's all-in-one to someone who just wants to   install and play.

Valkiries online function is nice, but his has a few different bugs. His was also difficult to get to work.

Vernam's is excellent, absolutely the easiest to use.

However, if Valkirie can get his bugs worked out, I will use his because of the ladder.  :cheers:

ladder???

btw

For me
1.  Zoxc's StarCraft II Launcher (simple UI)
all, but no location selection

2. et2010's StarLauncher (simple UI)
all,  but AI won't work in some maps (currently known: Blistering Sands and Scrap Station)

3. Valkirie's Starcraft II Beta Launcher (nice but big and heavy UI)
all, lot of bugs and still using lazylaunch.exe and modified Base.SC2Data

4. Vernam7's StarCraft 2 BEST Tool ALLin1 (Offline Mode) v4.6.1 (nice but big and heavy UI)
all, still using lazylaunch.exe, modified Base.SC2Data and much files for different operations

My favorite is Valkirie's SCII Beta Launcher.  It now includes team support in the latest version.  I also love the ladder feature.  Not entirely sure how it works.  I guess if I have the "use internet" box checked, it posts my info to the ladder?

Vernam's launcher is def the best one right now, IMHO.  It now includes teams, and doesn't have unnecessary "fluff" that Valkirie's has, like ladder... it's completely useless because everyone plays different level AIs.  So it pretty much just ranks you on how many games you've played.  Pointless.

Also, the layout is a lot better.  It doesn't take up the whole damn screen - instead, it's nice and small, and there are appropriate tabs for AI, maps, and replays.

GJ Vernam!!  :thumbsup:

I definitely agree with Organized_Chaos, I have stayed with Vernam's launcher since the beginning when there were none, one of the first after lazy launch released their crack and it has been evolving to turn out to be the easiest, most intuitive to use and implement!
+ No map modifying, works with the original maps;
+ Teams;
+ Color, Position, Race selection;
+ Replays;
+ Intuitive GUI which I really enjoy;
+ Regular updates! You just click the Update button and it updates all by itself without side effects;
+ Comes with Starcrack's 6.1.1 AI, the Starcrack team have my personal admiration and I would love to see what will come up with their 7.0 release;
+ Of course, if you don't like that AI you have the option to change it anytime.
+ Rename, delete, add map/replay/AI files, etc...

Last but not least, it works smoothly on XP, 7, Vista and after the last fix it is the most stable launcher!

This,of course, is my personal opinion and it turned out to be a free commercial but I am just a happy user who wants to share his experience.  8)

Valkirie's and Vernam7's is not actual launchers but front ends to the lazylaunch2.exe

I cannot find a single launcher that fits all of my requirements. I keep having to switch between two.
I want:

1. All races and colors
2. Works with teams
3. Handles replays well
4. Map preview
5. Loads multiple AI's. (Easy, Medium, Hard, etc). So I don't have to switch out files.
I do not care what it looks like.

NO launcher does all this. A couple look like they have team functionality but it never works.

I have some problems with viewing replays because of the "not synchron" bug. In my SC2 folder the original sc2basedata-thing-file is placed :/

same here.

I have 2 more requirements:
-works with 1 (me) vs 2 (no launcher can do that, it will be a free for all)
-can load different ai for each computer player

Not very important requirements but it would be nice. The current launchers are good anyway.

vernam7's launcher of course! who needs a bling-bling-GUI? vernam7's launcher works perfectly 4 me and is more userfriendly than any other I've seen.
But for some reason since a few days it says: "Patch file not found! Try again later!".
I hope this Project didn't die.

Valkirie launcher was the best for me. I tried the SC2ALL one but that did something with the difficulty where the AI didn't expand.

I haven't tried Starlauncher, though.

lol i enjoyed this conersations i have to say

1st of all let me thank all of you who support and use my tool(30.000downloads) if you compine all the others together still you get less than half og that, i know lots of people just download never post topics, so what we say here its not 100% real ;-)

, but also i challange anyone else with our latest release 6.7.x
dont missundestand me, but compairing launcers is one think, but compairing them to the same spots

for example
-stability-bugs
-UI-friendly easy to learn and easy to master
-Support and Updates
-basic functionalities (not like SHOW FPS bs, just to make more checkboxes on the ui :P all those are optional in your game menu)
-replay parsing and understanding of AIs

so compaire using as much as possible same critiria.

dont get me wrong i admire also 1-2 other launcers out there, but there is nothing that trully supports and has it ALLin1....i think you know what i mean

sure there are tools aout there for more Advanced users, or users that like to keep coping paste arround files.
best of favorit is a term sometimes very different to everyone

i just want to say that this is great and i enjoy doing it, and share knowledge with other programmers arround.

dont forget the end point is for you guys to enjoy this great game, cause we dont have the time to do, we are enjoying helping you!  :thumbsup:

have fun everyone! and remember to give shot at 6.7.x ;)

Actually I use sc2 launcher because its so nice to add AIs (just triggerlibs no .sc2data).

I used the Allin1 before too, really easy to begin with, but it bothered me that you cant just use the triggerlibs since im to stupid to handle the mpq editor :S

big + there would be the ability to play replays...

Trigger libs are more advanced feature for playing different AI's and with ALLin1 we are talking about easiness. The AI's that have good support from their creators also have base.sc2data file so you could easily switch it whenever you wish and then return the default back. Huge plus!

About the replays... I think Vernam's launcher has it all :)

Verman7's SC2ALLin1 Launcher Tool v6.7.0 is the best for me. Tried others but felt this one is the best. Has everything that I need and more. Been some buggy versions here and there but the latest version is great. Love how you can choose your location now with just a single mouse click on the minimap. :) Plus many other cool little features.

Thanks Verman7!!!

So now I have had the time to play around with a couple of launchers and in my opinion the Vernam7 launcher is my favorit. It really have everything i need and is so easy to set up an use. Only thing i miss is the opportunity to choose random map, much like blizzards own matchmaking system. Except that its perfect, and im sure it will be updated regally.

No doubt its is best .Earlier I used to use valkirie's starcraft 2 beta launcher but that lacks the option of watching your own replay's(you can watch Pro replays still).Till now , I think this is the only launcher with which you can watch your own replay i.e games you play with different versions of AI.
And yes option of random maps i would be great if it is possible.
Title: Re: Best Launcher in your opinion.
Post by: Man7a on April 09, 2010, 07:07:21 AM
For me, i would have to say the following are the 2 best Launchers from what i have seen and heared

Valkirie and Verman7's.

Valkirie 0.28
i installed, no problem, getting the maps location was easy aswell as the AI. which led me to make AI folders that said Easy, Hard,  Cheating, what ever i want so i know what ai i am playing, since there are Ghost AI with the Aiur update, that is different from Strategy AI yet same difficulty, So this part i enjoyed of the Launcher.

replays are easy to watch but it is unfortunate that you cannot see what the map or player are that plays it.

i love the one screen UI where everything is selectable. and its clear and easy to read.
Ladder was a nice idea although i never use it.

What i do not like is the fact that it does not have a game speed setting.
Also the Launcher takes 4-5 seconds before i can start selecting after i started it.

Verman7's 6.7.2
I installed, ran the Launcher everything worked besides getting a "unable to open map" when i  Launch the game which has to be a fault on my PC so excluding that ( downloaded the original maps ).
Verman7 did allot of afford to make this Launcher easy to use yet glamorous at the same time, picking AI and having the duficulty was neat. altho hard to spot weather its cheating or not, and not so friendly when it comes to changing between AI's like Ghost, Strategy and so on. which is probably why i'm not able to run

You can select your Game speed you want to start with. Big +!
And watching replays is grand.

So for me, if and when i figure out what this Error is i'm getting. i would be bloody hard to chose between the 2 if:

Valkirie implements game speed
and Verman7 could have a way of working the AI, so that one could pick between AI's 'since they have different ways of fighting'. i'm not sure how hard ghost AI on 'hard' is compared to 'normal' if they cheating or not.

all in all. My 2c.

Great work guys
Manta
