As a distributor of a product, you want to deliver to as wide an audience as possible, and as a downloader, you want to get the product as easily as possible.
So why do people use inconvenient file host services such as RapidShare or MegaUpload?
First of all, the reason they are inconvenient is because they: limit how much a user can download, require tedious captcha inputs, demand the user to wait as they shove ads in the user's face, and rams the extortion subscription down the user's throat.
Now why would people put up with it? It is ignorance. Ignorance of the vast numbers of much better alternatives that are overshadowed by the much more forum-saturated RapidShare and MegaUpload links.
So this thread's purpose is to help by informing both the uploaders and the downloaders of the excellent file hosting alternatives which do not have the annoyance of said web tyrants.

Now that you know of several great file hosting sites, next time as a releaser, upload your files there, or as a downloader, request that the file be uploaded where you won't have to waste minutes or even hours of your life waiting for the site to unlock your IP address (or without having to pull your router's plug).
Thank you :)

For those who have to use those frustrating sites for downloads, this manager program will wait the timer and notify you when download is ready and download automatically if no captcha input is needed.
+1 to you, good sir.
+10 Thank you
Nice post :)
Yea I can't stand rapidshare and (IMO) people that use it fail... even if you have a pro account, that doesn't mean everyone else does (idk who would even).
Mediafire = best (imo). No wait times, free uploads, whats more to ask :)
Actually, most people use RS and MU because they get rewards points every time someone downloads a file. People make their livings uploading stuff to these sites.

Mediafire's the greatest uploader of all time, no contest.

Good point DemonStalker, though in the context of the community here, we shouldn't encourage people to be greedy and make inconveniences for others. It is doubtful that people can "make a living" by posting ads-full links, other than for some extra cash.
I'm not saying people distributing their own works should not benefit financially from it, it's just that the creators' motivation should be derived more from the appreciations by others, rather than financial gain. And to make others appreciate one's works even more is by allowing them to obtain it hassle-free.
I like megaupload..don't see what's the big deal..one file at a time but other than that I download gigabytes a day with no limit... and only a 1minute wait to DL... and I can always DL 1MB/s + which I can't always on other hosts
its funny how people will spend months developing a product, and and afford cheap web hosting and a domain, so they have to resort to rapidshare and the servers are always too full for the download
That's right! I hate people who uploaded their files to Rapidshare, Megaupload or Hotfile. All waste of time just to download some files.
Damn, I hate people that use RS !!!!! :'( :'(
Funny how when i have to download like...20 files the uploaders always choose...guess what? rapidshare...
You forgot the best one.
MegaUpload.

The best one? Well, if only you've got a Premium account. Otherwise, it's just a waste of time just to download some files using this site.
Umm Rapidshare/Megaupload premium account >>> all and RS/MU are pretty much better than most of the file sharing sites anyway.
Seriously, stop thinking just from your point of view. If I was an uploader with a RS premium account of course I'd upload to RS.

This might be news for you, but the world doesn't revolve around you. lmao
Don't like RS/MU? Go find some Mediafire links. Oh wait, you can't? Well maybe people have good reasons to upload to RS/MU. Nobody's forcing them.
I have to disagree with people who say RS and MU are bad. If you have premium, those sites actually have no limit to their speed. My friend has a t3 line in his house (don't ask me why, I don't know, but I like mooching off his internet), and I get 30+ mb/s with RS and MU. All of those hosts you mentioned most of them don't go over 2 mb/s.

You don't have to have premium, MU is definitely the best out there. only 45 sec waiting time, and sometimes you don't have to wait, (usually on work days) and you get 1+ mb/s. MU and RS FTW!
Yeah you don't have to be Premium. But i really hate that IP Download Exceed shit. That's why i hate this sites MU and RS.
Mediafire > * ;)
RS/MU are crap. It's very frustating to wait ~60 seconds and type in some stupid capachas to download. Paying from filehost is even more stupid.
RS is stupid because of the limit you run into when downloading. Its not being selfish, for the most part all the files I download are stuff that have no reason to be on RS; they arent popular enough to warrant the shitty service. I can see for the SC2 files, that shit will have thousands of hits = profit. But not for stuff that will get 10 downloads, bit of a joke
