Has anyone got the .4 strategy AI working properly as in does it actually display "Strategy AI .4" upon launching a new game?  I've tried several different combinations of adding/removing the triggerlibs/gamedata folders but it seems the only text displayed shows Strategy AI .31.  The instructions are a little bit incoherent could someone who has gotten this to work quickly repost instructions on how to get this version working?

- using SC2allin1 launcher

I don't know how SC2allin1 loads AIs, but I'm using Valkerie's launcher and this works for me:

1 - Make a backup first and move the patch.SC2Archive file to C:\Games\StarCraft II Beta\Versions\Base14803
2 - Copy the triggerlibs and gamedata folder from the archive file to a new Base.SC2Data file and use that to load the AI, or use the one Kernel64 made.

I'm not even sure you need to do the first step, I launched the game with the wrong patch version and the AI seemed to micro okay.

General Discussion / Re: Easy way to get a beta key

Yeah, this looks like a total scam. Unless they had a contract with Blizzard I don't see how they could get enough beta keys to make this legit.

Why not call your parents and ask them for the   key?

Because I don't remember if I packed them up and put them in storage,   and feel kind of ridiculous asking them to dig around for some old   games.

A bit late to sign up for the beta, no?
Did you miss the announcement back in May  2009?

yeah
Anyways nevermind, in retrospect this was a dumb thing to ask for in the first place.  ::)

Crota/Quota   is pretty decent too, annoying speech impediment though

Would anyone be willing to hook me up with a cd key to a Blizzard game that isn't tied to a battle.net account? I just want to be able to get into the beta, and both my copies of the games are at my parents house two states away. Never thought I'd need them again so I never bothered to bring them with me!

In return I can hook you up with the keys to both Diablo II + expansion along with the Starcraft Battlechest the next time I get the chance to go back home, I'm just not really sure when I'll have the chance to. I can even mail you the boxes manuals and cds if you want to have them and live in the US.

Anyways I just don't want to spend money buying another copy of a game I own JUST for a chance to get into a beta, big thanks if anyone is willing to help me out!

SC2 Tools / Re: Problem with replay after Patch 8

Could the cache files you downloaded be corrupted? I have the same setup, the only difference is that my cache files are from patch 7 yet replays work perfectly.

AI Scripts / Re: Humanik V1.0.0

Damn, if it really can beat strategy 0.31 I'm hyped for this.

Got a question though - how does your ai choose what units and buildings to make?

I'm asking because Strategy AI basically makes units based off of what it scouts, yet makes buildings and expos based off of how much vespene and minerals it has at any given time. It's really an inefficient way to do things since it ends up making way too many production buildings and tech it doesn't even need, which really holds it back from being competitive.

Anyways I can't wait to try this, keep it up man

General Discussion / Re: Need help on improving APM
April 10, 2010, 03:09:15 AM
Don't get too crazy about apm, a lot of it is just move order and hotkey spam. If you're doing everything you need to be doing at any moment you're good.

The most important thing is knowing the keyboard shortcuts and hotkeying EVERYTHING so that you can micro your army and macro up at the same time. How you do it depends on what race you're playing, but for example with zerg I hotkey

0 - hatcheries
9 - queens
8 - nydus worms
1 - 4 armies

That way I can do everything but build and buy upgrades without even looking at my base, for example to spawn larvae I just hit 9, then r, and click on my hatcheries on the minimap (sounds weird but it works when you try it).

For terran I keep all production buildings of one kind on hotkeys and use tab to cycle through them, and keep my command centers and a worker that constantly makes supply depots hotkeyed too.

Once you learn how to do that well your APM should go up quite a bit since you don't have to waste time scrolling all over the map to get things done. Command queuing with shift really helps out too, it lets you do things like tell a group of stalkers to move, blink, then attack move, and while they're doing that you can harass with some void rays or pay attention to whatever else is going on.

Hope that helps, doing all that I manage about 100 apm with only a little spam

Replay worked for me, just had to launch the game with patch 6.

I like this strategy, it definitely works as a timing push, and after trying this myself the thor is surprisingly beastly because of the sheer amount of scvs that can repair it at once. The problem is this will probably lose to any other timing attack except (maybe, I'm guessing) protoss.

In the terran mirror you'll likely have MM knocking at your door at around 5 minutes, at which point you hardly have anything out. At 7 they'd probably have enough maurauders to focus down your thor even with scv repair. Zergs' push vs terran is usually mass speedlings + banelings, which shuts this down hard. Against Protoss it would be a lot closer of a fight - not sure how a couple of immortals vs a thor would pan out because of cannon strike, it would probably come down to micro.

You mentioned a couple of those, but unfortunately they're very common strategies, so unless things change this this is probably more of a novelty build.

General Discussion / Re: Difficulty of AI 7.0 / PvT

Try to go for a cybernetics core ASAP since zealots by themselves get   owned by marauders. Try to get about an even number of zealots,   slalkers, and sentries, and push out once you have a couple of immortals   in the mix, with possibly a weapons upgrade. Make sure to build an   observer too for scouting and detecting ghosts and banshees, use zealots   draw emps away from the rest of your army and hold the   line, immortals to kill mauraders, and keep a force field up at all   times since it gives everyone in it +2 armor vs basically everything a   terran can throw at you.

The way I play it is to mass a large army from the start and try to   punish whenever I can. If the terran's running through a choke you can   split their army with 2 or 3 kinetic barriers and pick off the   stragglers, if they try to expand there's a window of opportunity a   little bit after it goes up where they've basically spent 6 or 7 hundred   minerals on econ without any sort of return that makes them really   vurnerable to an attack. You can also counter with an expansion of your   own or by teching to HTs or whatever those huge death ray robot things   are called, but if you get too passive and just sit back without   harassing and let them build a huge army you're screwed.

Attached a replay vs strategy ai 0.3, not too thrilling a game but it   shows you how its done. You should put up a replay, it would help for   sure.

Nice, Thors are actually really good late game air defense now, might bother too build a couple sometimes. I like the boost to defensive structures too.

Not sure why Broodlords and roaches got hit though, maybe to make Ultras better in comparison?
