Its good, but I do agree with what many of the above people said; it'll be hard to get it up to scratch to 1v1 a human player, without cheating, so I think a 2v1 or more is what we need. On the other hand it makes for good practice runs and what not, I think we can all hold off until SC2 actually is released. Im just usin this AI to test how quickly and efficiently I can get to some of the more obscure builds, as they happen to be my favorite ones from SC:BW ;)

Previously all we had to do was copy the files Lazylauncher reads from into the old folder, so if that holds true for this update then all you need to do is open up your Starcraft II Beta > Versions folder, find the highest Base**** file, and copy it into the one below it.

Again, that's how it was done with the original, can't test it since im not on my desktop

They arent impeding us from playing, they're just making it less fun.

3-4 games and you'll be at the same rank you were in broodwar? lol?

I would say at least 75-100 games before you'd start to get a solid idea of whats going on. Sure the same overall concept applies, and with strong macro/micro you can put up a fight. But if your playing someone else who can micro/macro then its really up for grabs.

Builds are just starting to take place, im positive they will change, but id bet a million dollars that in 3-4 games you will not be understanding SC2 at the level you understood SC:BW. Not even 100 games. Probably not 500.

Anyway, I dont think a way to rank people BEFORE we even get a server up is even needed.

Not same rank but like, same understanding of the game. All it is, is rock paper scissors^3, figure out what works against what and the rest is just the micro/macro behind it. Builds and all that shit will change sure but im just talking about from my end. I never stopped changing the way I played BW, always a better way to do something or learning something that was buckwild.

3-4 is too little maybe but guaranteed if it takes you 100 games to get used to the game, you dont have much hope anyway, or youll dedicate WAY more time to get to the same level

but i doagree ranking now is stupid, even ranking one month after the game comes out isn't too accurate for the reasons everyones said

I just officially lost my first SC2 game haha.

4player on Shakuras Plateau, Me(T)vsZvsPvsP

Z kept doing ling/roach waves and I held it off while taking the lowered expansion, then after awhile when I popped helions tanks and vikings he stopped attacking, so I expo'd again.

Then out of nowhere the zerg AI says, "gg". I go WTF and scan him, Blue protoss raped him with stalkers and zealots. I start to make a counter for stalker/zealot and Teal Protoss, who did nothing all game, says "gg". I scan him and Blue has archons, dt's stalkers and zealots. Within 2 minutes he masses me as im killing his expos, I hold him off but way too weak to go for his main so i start teching to BC's while countering him.

This is the part that amazed me. The next wave came archon, dt, carrier mass, he kills about half my base but I hold him off with a lot of units left so I charge on his base, and I find 10+ carriers waiting for me and he mows me down, then finishes me off before I can rebuild.

I think one of your protoss builds is just a LITTLE better than the other, I'm impressed :)
I didnt think id have to try very hard vs AI

I think there is no way to rank players until you get a emulated server or till SC2 is up to all of us.

I played a bit of iCCup back when I was still in school, got up to C+, so I have an advantage over people that just sit on youtube all day watching others play. Different game but the playstyle is identical, im just using different hotkeys and subbing abilities in for others.

Some strats got completely erased but replaced by new ones, example: Reav/sair and reav drops are no longer viable, obviously. But prism's give the same idea, adding the ability to warp units in aswell. Long story short, experience in SC will take maybe 3-4 games per race to bend them into SC2, and you'll be back to the same ranking you were for SC.

Mad props to the makers of these AI's, I'm still somewhat fresh to SC2 but Im fairly experienced in SC1, and im noticing the builds and strategys are relatively the same, just a few tweaks in between.

For developping AI, I'm sure you've already thought or implemented it but 75%+ of a win comes from the use of micro/spell's and upgrades. Massing a bulk army is all good but it won't win you a game against a good player, or in this case what I hope you can make the AI. Im finding a lot of ways to trick the AI's, like for example:

Their script in v5.0 tells them to retreat, presumably when they have lost x% of their army, but If i block the ramp, like I did by blinking, they just run at my units without attacking forever.

I realize I could just avoid doing things like that but afterall, Im sure you love feedback so this is just my 2cents! ;)

3warp prism is my new fav strategy
I just make my hybrid mix of units then as im going to attack for the first time i pop them into warp's while making some more regulars

Sentrys are wayyyy undervalued, they make disgustingly good pairs with blinking or colossing cliffs, only takes 2 fields to cover a ramp

Once I can play against a human player im gonna fiddle with a sentry-stalker strat, im loving it so far agianst AI though

I had the same issues since my monitor is my TV
In other games, editing the proper registry key was how I went about getting my custom res, I dont know if or how to do it for sc2 though, good luck though

To extract .rar files use a program like winzip or 7zip, I know 7zip is free. Then just extract into SC2Beta, overwrite when it asks and run a hacked map.
