I've played over 10,000 games of starcraft and I'm a semi-pro SC gamer so this new AI is exciting me quite a lot.  The ones we've got now I beat while sleeping. I can literally micro 20 lings and 5 roaches for 20 minutes vs the ai (ofc at which point i've got like 5 expansions and full tech :P ).  Why don't you just release the AI and update it after? I'm sure 90% of the people here would rather have this artificial goodness ASAP over the finished version at the high quality you're seeking. Just call it like 5.9 and when it's where you expected it to be, release it as 6.0.   I know this makes the jumps smaller and less awe-inspiring but I don't think that's what you guys are going for :P .


It's fine with whatever you AI dev's decide, thanks for the great and speedy work.  I guess if I've been waiting 5 years for SC2, I can stand to wait another few days for an improved AI for it :) .

I think protoss is going to be a bit harder than in broodwar. Warp gates keep messing up my macro cycle because you build units SO fast that you need SO many more pylons and its obnoxious.


Ive been doing random builds, almost all 1 gate stalker transition into whatever. But its AI and unless your noob its pretty easy to make anything work. Gotta wait for multiplayer before you can really start discussing builds.

Im bored but because its only vs AI and the AI's are not a challenge.


I am pretty confident then when we can start playing people and getting a rating system going on a private server it will be very entertaining

3-4 games and you'll be at the same rank you were in broodwar? lol?


I would say at least 75-100 games before you'd start to get a solid idea of whats going on. Sure the same overall concept applies, and with strong macro/micro you can put up a fight. But if your playing someone else who can micro/macro then its really up for grabs.


Builds are just starting to take place, im positive they will change, but id bet a million dollars that in 3-4 games you will not be understanding SC2 at the level you understood SC:BW. Not even 100 games. Probably not 500.




Anyway, I dont think a way to rank people BEFORE we even get a server up is even needed.

I think iccup ratings would be best.


Someone who was "good" at starcraft broodwar WILL be better than someone who plays different RTS's occasionally and has watched some starcraft 2 streams and knows all the units, simply because if you are very good at the basics you can adjust in game.


I never watched any SC2 streams or anything, and Ive been playing 1v1/FFA against the AI's sense v4 and have yet to lose a game or even come close using random build orders and random matchups. I think this is because I was a "strong" (using that vaguely) SC:BW player (C+/B- iccup).


I think a rating should go...


New to RTS's
Casual gamer (this would be beating comps or on their relative level)
RTS gamer (beating comps easily)
ICCUP ranking (starcraft was one of the most competetive RTS's and most iccup gamers were very good compared to the competition in other RTS games)


Thats just my opinion

Got to play 2 games


I had been 6-0 with ai v4, I got 2 PvZ's with v5. First game I went 3 gate zealot, his early game was fine and he kept up ling/roach production and was able to hold off my attack. I retreated, continued to pump units, pushed out when I had charge and rolled him. Past 5 minute mark AI's start to go downhill bad.


Second game I went 1 gate/forge into 2 stargate void ray. Zerg has NO IDEA how to deal with this, not a single unit that could attack air aside from his queen which 2 voidrays can easily kill.  If its possible to work on having them modify their build to fit what we do better it may help.


Anyways, keep pumping them out its fun haha

AI is really easy.


Im very thankful to all the devs working on it, but its not much of a challenge. I consider myself a good starcraft bw player, and I think the simple points from starcraft bw (macro,micro) have made it easy to win with any race any matchup.


For someone new too the game it would definetly be a challenge, but if you macro half decently its an easy win, even if you do idiotic builds.


Its very entertaining, but im looking for multiplayer so much more haha

I agree with whoever posted above me.


Its getting me mad seeing someone so bent on believing its a virus. And yeah, there are tons of new accounts saying it works because there are MANY MANY more people downloading this that were not originally members (like myself) and only heard about darkblizz when the starcraft 2 beta crack ideas started to bounce around.


An attitude like yours is just obnoxious. Hopefully im not flaming too hard, and I hope you download it and have fun. Because I know I am.


(Although it gets boring after an hour. Gotta wait for AI and bnet emulator)

so is this crack letting us play bnet and everything? Or what i Have the replay crack but im confused on whether this lets us play just vs AI or vs anyone.
