Title: LAN
Post by: FaineAway on March 07, 2010, 05:08:05 PM
I know myself, like many others are eagerly anticipating the release of a LAN crack.  And I am sure there are people who are working on it but it seems like the talk about it has really died down the last week.  So I was just wondering if anyone knows any new and exciting break through with involving LAN?

the way the game is made made it pretty hard to do such a thing since its not open to various ports, it would most likely take Long time, the game will be out before this happens

Blizzard already claimed that they will disable the lan functionality or not even implement it in SC2 bcuz of the piracy going on the internet.
So this way,if you want to play online, you have to buy the game, not just download it.
The new battle.net will be soooo awesome and I will buy SC2 for sure
I didn't buyed too many games yet,only the Unreal series(Unreal1,Unreal2,Unreal Tournament,Unreal Tournament 2004,Unreal Tournament 3) and some other games(Hellgate London,Blacksite Area 51)
I would also really like to see a LAN function in the game somehow but I really doubt about it...
If any1 hears anything about the lan functions in the game, please reply here

Piracy is just an excuse to stop people from playing LAN. You will need a key to get ONLINE, pirating SC2 will never work, and it's never worked on games with content that is necessary to be ONLINE to access. For offline stuff, people don't even need to pirate the game to get offline content. It's just a money sucking implementation. Or rather, it's not an implementation at all; it's taking away from the originality of StarCraft.

The only reason LAN has been rejected is because it does affect the money making business, everyone who doesn't care about the ladder will just LAN and pass their copies to all their friends to LAN with them. Then, no one else will have to buy a copy. If you look at Koreans and SCBW, most of them don't even play on battle.net, especially the GOSU's, they all just LAN together to train and occasionally get on b.net to pwn scrubs. Blizzard would lose a lot if the same thing happened to SC2.

Piracy is not just an excuse. In fact LAN could be used in Warcraft III to bypass the CD-Key and to play on the Garena platform. The Platform offered an own ladder and you don't need a legit key to play there. Thus they lost a lot of money as people never ever bought anything, but played the whole day. (For example most of the player I know from the Ukraine play this way - just talking about experience)

Now Blizzard will most likely allow to play LAN, but only if both have an internet connection and are connected to BNet with a legit key. (You don't play on their server but need to be connected to it)

Just my guess / two cents :>
