1 - Extract into Starcraft II beta folder
(C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II Beta)
2 - It should ask to overrite, accept

I was playing Zerg, and i was going up against a fellow Zerg as well.. The opposing Zerg kept on harassing me with mutas and infested, all of a sudden the zerg pulls 6 ultras and almost annihilates me but i was able to kill them. By that time, around the 10 minute mark, i was out of gas and minerals and the zerg harassed me to the point where i could not leave my base. They also expanded to most of the map. This is by far the best AI yet. Didn't yet take a look at protoss or Terran yet.

zerg expands so slow and in early game they are idle like don't do nothing and only expand when their main mineral is totally mined out.

Got to play 2 games


I had been 6-0 with ai v4, I got 2 PvZ's with v5. First game I went 3 gate zealot, his early game was fine and he kept up ling/roach production and was able to hold off my attack. I retreated, continued to pump units, pushed out when I had charge and rolled him. Past 5 minute mark AI's start to go downhill bad.


Second game I went 1 gate/forge into 2 stargate void ray. Zerg has NO IDEA how to deal with this, not a single unit that could attack air aside from his queen which 2 voidrays can easily kill.  If its possible to work on having them modify their build to fit what we do better it may help.


Anyways, keep pumping them out its fun haha

Just played first game with v5 AI, it was TvT.

AI scouted me 2 or 3 times early on, before I even had a barracks up. After that, it did not scout me again for the entire game. I expanded early and fended off his first rush, then pushed into his base with M&M's, which were defeated. AI defended another attack from M&M's while I got a few tanks up as well as 2 medivacs and 2 ravens. I intended to drop M&Ms in his base, but he caught me in the middle of the map and destroyed all of the units, then pushed into my base while I defended with mass auto turrets. Finally I just destroyed him with mass vikings, and had to hunt down his 2-3 expansions.

Still very easy to defeat, even with joke strats, but there is definitive improvement over v4. I'd like to thank everyone who helped to make this AI; keep up the good work.

Some things that need improvement: (at least for Terran)
- AI repeatedly tried to siege my natural expansion with tanks and vikings when I had tanks on a cliff destroying them at each attempt. He would roll up, morph vikings to ground units, and die.
- Terrans still build an unnecessary amount of starports that never get used (I think I saw 4 or 5 in his base, and he only had a few air units)
- Doesn't make enough units mid-late game after army is destroyed (although improved since v4).
- AI makes too many defensive buildings in base when it should make units instead.

Not intended as criticism, just some input to help improve the AI in later versions. ;)

It seems like Protoss & Zerg AI's don't know how to counter air units, at all. They do have defensive buildings against them and some part of their armies are made up of units that can attack air units, after you snipe those units out however, they just seem to give up.

hey just played it seriously. this time it was a PvP. the AI rushed me twice, with a good number of units. but as you guys, the AI couldnt counter my air units. that is maybe the only problem i've seen so far. anyway, it is a lot better than the v4. thanks for your work guys

Most of the games I've played have been pretty good, but when I was in a tvz the zerg seemed wayyyy too easy. It only had a good number of lings and a queen when i got to its base with marines and 4 banshees.

I just played a Z(me)vP against the new AI

I didn't get attacked for like 10minutes (maybe a bit more) then an army of zealots, stalkers and Immortals went to my natural and almost killed me, if I didn't had control of the Xel'naga towers and made 40 extra zerlings in time it would have been a different story. After that I expanded a bit more and build a massive army (I didn't get attacked again, except for a 1-3 archons and some high templars that didn't cast any spell and were over 75 energy) the enemy had almost no units to defend when I reached his natural and when I was attacking his main I saw around 10 probes doing nothing (I guess that when the minerals of his main ran out they went Idle) he did 3 Starports(?) but didn't build any air unit until I reached his main.

Protoss on a 30-35min game (I was playing defensive)
-Only expanded to their natural.
-When the minerals of his main ran out, the probes that were mining did nothing for the rest of the game.
-After the first attack that almost killed me, they didn't attacked me again (I didn't attacked him during the whole game until my massive army destroyed his base).
-3 starports(?) and 0 air units until I reached his main.
- A few High templays running around the map with some energy(+75) but didn't use storm or another abilities on my units.

Hope this helps, is very interesting to see the progress :)

Terran (me) vs Zerg
Overall, it is a lot better.  He is quite a bit more aggressive now, yet still knows when to retreat.  After he defeated my original attack, he tried to push my main which was nice.  He also scouted me at the beginning of the game (although it seemed a bit early and ran off really quickly).  The major problem with the AI is that he didn't know how to counter.  I made banshees for my original attack and yet he still didn't make any anti air units.  He pretty much only had roaches and zerglings.  It could be because I damaged his economy at the beginning, but it was a bit strange that he didn't try making any units that could take out air.  All he had was a couple of turrets to defend against my banshee attack a few minutes later.  Overall, the AI has improved a lot.  Good work.

I just played and the AI seems a tiny bit better than V4. The funniest thing about it is it's so persistent when rebuilding. It seemed like I had to wipe out one player 2 or 3 times before he finally was defeated. He keeps hiding scvs and building new bases wherever.


I think the consensus for improvement is:
- Stop making 8 starports and only 2 air units. In fact, a whole new effort should be devoted to start making tons of air units mid game.
- It should know to attack the rocks to expand
- The AI should keep a list of units and counters that go with that unit. Like, if it sees a battlecruiser it should know to start building upgraded hydralisks and anti-air. That would def make it ridiculously intelligent if it could start pumping out different units based on what the opponent seems to be building.
- Randomize build orders so we don't constantly see things like the terran make the same monotonous viking attack.

I've tried 3 games with v5
the AI is a LOT more harder than v3 and better..
I haven't tried v3 though..

my first battle PvZ:
-the AI sent the first scout although i think it's too early since I havent got gateway yet.
-I'm surprised that it would attack so early but I've managed to get enough zealot to deal with them..
-in this battle I was trying to mass DT and attack the main base.. surprisingly, the AI even got the overseer to see my DT.. I lost my first rush DT..
-for the second rush, i bring some phoenix to kill the overseeer.
-finally i won the game.. I think the AI is well enough to handle my phoenix.. they got a lot hydralisk.. but still they are no match to my DTs

my second battle TvZ:
-like usual, the AI sent the first scout when I havent build a barrack..
-I got a scv build supply depot in the entrance of the ramp.. and got a few marines too..
-again, I'm surprised the zerg rush so early.. but I managed to clear it thanks to blockade of suppy depot..
-but for the second,, I made a mistake. I think it would okay to defend the second rush with my blockade.. I didnt think the second rush would be so many!!
-well, my M&M easily outnumbered by them. I lost the second battle

my third battle TvT:
-like usual, too early scouting..
-the AI sent the first marines rush.. but I managed to beat them.. this time I didnt depend on my supply depot blockade. I massed marine and marauder
-the second rush, the AI bring vikings and siege tank.! the viking just flying directly to main base and destroy a lot of my scv..! I was forced to bring my M&M back to the base..
-after repair, defend, build scv, etc I bring some ST to enemy base along with massed M&M.. and I found the base has few army. maybe the main army is on the way to my base but I didnt see them..
-becous of that I easily destroy their base.. and it's too late for them to save their base..


I think this is the best AI so far.. this is what I called the real HARD mode AI but still beatable..

The first scout comes too early indeed, well it would be ok actually if he stayed at my base, instead he leaves about 2 sec after arriving. He's already in my base when I'm just building my 7th or 8th drone, nobody is even going to have gas up that early. He actually makes the game a lot easier for me, since I'll know pretty much from the beginning what race he plays.

It's still a bit easy for my taste cause i've played SC for a long time (still amateur+noob)
BUT, it' a remarkable achievement Ai has changed a lots since V3
In a 1v1 ZvZ, i do fast EX strat (Hatch>Spawn) computer rush me with 6-8 lings, i get queen+lings and fend off the att. After that i mass roach+lings and tech to muta, but the game finished before they got to taste my muta (14min or so), it' seem they only expan when mineral running low cause i didn't see them make one yet :<
In a 1v1 PvT computer scout early and it's hard to kill it o_0, but once i build 2 gate way to cover the choke point, it's just wander around my base entrance, make 3 lots and att  his base and found my lots overrun by 8-10 rins. They fend off another round with 6lots 6Stalk +1 sentry by rins +1 Siege (impressive improvement). After that i expand and tech to colossi andby the time i got the army near to his base he overrun me by trying to destroy 3 warpgate blocking the choke point ( they Actually kill the pylon fist !!! wow :>)
but after that they seem not able to fight off any more, i see they build 2 starport build not pumping out any unit at all :|

Considering all this is being done off of (what I assume is) the Very Easy AI that Blizzard left in, this is pretty impressive. I can't imagine how good the AI is in the full game, though. If this is mostly Blizz, this is pretty neat.

I did notice in V5 that the enemy (haven't played vs terran in this one, yet) sends a worker to different corners, and continues doing so, and they hang around. They never build though. I assume this was an attempt to get them to expand.. It certainly freaked me out the first time I saw a drone move to an expansion just outside my base (would have worked too, if it had some protection).

i just played 1v1, PvP... so i built up 3 zealots, 2 stalkers, 3 immortals, and 4 cannons and stay on the defensive. they send a huge army of about 10 zealots, 5 immortals, & 5 stalkers. once they get down to 2 units he retreats and builds up a couple of archons and just keeps yo-yoing in & out of my line of sight. i whipe him out completely with a crap load of immortals, and leave him his nexus in the expansion he built. suprisingly enough, he builds up pretty fast (i keep a couple of observers near by), builds some stargates, and starts pumping out carriers... i was like WTF, cause i forgot to build anti-air, and he almost whipes me out with like 4 carriers. but i get him in the end with a 15 carrier counter attack

overall, huge improvement, cant wait for v6 :)

I just won my fourth battle using zerg.. this time I choose 4 player map..
my enemies are 2 prtoss and 1 terran..

I have to say broodlord is AWESOMEE!!! LOL
the funny thing is the broodling created by broodlord easily outnumbered the enemies army  :D

I sent 5 broodlord to beat stack of m&m & siege tank
the broodling will make them panick just because the massive attack of broodling
and even they cant escape because they easily surrounded by the broodlings.. lol
the AI doesn't attack the broodlord instead they just hit the unlimited broodlings  :D

in my opinion, I think broodlord is overpowered right now..
for the anti air, I used corruptors which is great too !

anyway, I found different play type with the protoss AI.. one protoss just massing zealot and stalker which is usual.. and the other one is massing carrier and archon !!

this is the first time I see protoss AI massing carrier and archon.. I think this is an improvement in protoss AI compared to the older one.. I dont know if you guys already see this play type of protss AI

I won my first match(PvT). Actually it was pretty easy.
I built some zealot and stalkers and some sentries.But at the beginning it was hard to rush him.I hope that the AI will RUSH some day that would be awesome.
But the V5 crack is a big improvement.

V5 is defiantly a step in the right direction. 

The first game I played, I tried to get fancy and double expand on 4 stalkers and 2 zealots and got steamrolled by roaches.

the second game i caught the Terran in a bad position and rolled it cause of it. 

aside for the insanely early scouting, this is a very great step! :)!

This bot is awesome!... It is pretty easily beatable, but still... great work.

In PvP, bot should make Colossus earlier against Zealot/Archons army.

i was Protoss and my enemy was Terrans and i kicked his ass with the mothership and 6 carriers that was sooo awesome.I just built a lot of photon cannnons and the mothership cloaked them and when arrived the enemy i just annihilated his very huge army.

- v3 for easy
- I couldn't try v4
- v5 kills me even though I try to fight hard

I'm not good at SC though. I'm more familiar with WC3, and I have a hard time keeping the production up. (Often above 1k minerals after 5/10 min)

Keep up the good work ! I wanna get better before I have to play online :D

Really, the Protoss AI rushed you? Coz I've played a good number of PVPs in v5.0 and he waits forever to build an army of zealots/stalkers/immortals and then attacks.


The AI also doesn't expand, at least in my experience. Oh and one more thing: I went scouting with one zealot, he had about 5-6 zealots ready so I faked an attack after which I ordered the zealot to move to the opposite side of the map and the AI's entire army followed him leaving the base wide open for any sort of attack. You can just walk in and burn it to the ground with a handful of units.

From my experience with Ai v 5.0 (like 20 games)the terran make faster expand then protoss and zerg :>.Dont know why tho Zerg always have to get faster expand for more units.

so yeah, it has vision (zerg), antiair (zerg) and expanding behind/walking through destroyable rocks. Awsome job for the developers of this, didn't expected so much of the AI :}.

I am currently watching a 1v1 ai match between a zerg and protoss, the protoss at the beginning left about 6 probes on gas for about 1 min, then re assigned them. the zerg let his quick expand die by about 9-10 zealots while the zerg had atleast 25 zerglings and 5+ roaches, he should of tried to save it...

Hey all,
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the work in producing the launcher, maps, and AI.

Is there any information out there on how the AI is coded? I'm a career developer with a fair amount of C++, obj-c and web technology experience. I was wondering how the AI files are creating and if there is any information out there that could help me get up to speed so I could make my own or contribute to the ongoing effort.

I just officially lost my first SC2 game haha.

4player on Shakuras Plateau, Me(T)vsZvsPvsP

Z kept doing ling/roach waves and I held it off while taking the lowered expansion, then after awhile when I popped helions tanks and vikings he stopped attacking, so I expo'd again.

Then out of nowhere the zerg AI says, "gg". I go WTF and scan him, Blue protoss raped him with stalkers and zealots. I start to make a counter for stalker/zealot and Teal Protoss, who did nothing all game, says "gg". I scan him and Blue has archons, dt's stalkers and zealots. Within 2 minutes he masses me as im killing his expos, I hold him off but way too weak to go for his main so i start teching to BC's while countering him.

This is the part that amazed me. The next wave came archon, dt, carrier mass, he kills about half my base but I hold him off with a lot of units left so I charge on his base, and I find 10+ carriers waiting for me and he mows me down, then finishes me off before I can rebuild.

I think one of your protoss builds is just a LITTLE better than the other, I'm impressed :)

I have played many games and I would have to say the weakest aspect of the AI is their keeping up with my production. They have a good first rush but after that I feel like I get to choose if I want the game to end or not. I don't exactly know how to fix that though lol. Protoss has by far the strongest front in longer games with their carrier/archon spamming. Terran needs to stop spamming vikings. Battlecruiser spam would probably be more challenging and I think zerg takes too long to tech up to more advanced units like mutas and I've never seen a brood lord/corruptor combo pop up on me. I am impressed that you have the infestors mind controlling my Battlecruisers though! I know the AI has a very attack and retreat attitude but I feel like they lose a lot of resources and troops because of how they attack. The only race this works for is protoss because that is actually the PERFECT way to play carriers. Their interceptors smoke me while they run away.

The AI does a good job if you give them a lot of time to build up (terran is probably the weakest in the long games though, they need to seriously buff vikings lol), but they are pretty easy in the beginning, probably mostly because they waste themselves on their suicidal run and retreat tactics.

Why are you still playing with v5 or v5.5? Download v6.1.1, as it's the most advanced one yet. No point in playing with the older versions.

Ah, ya I haven't tried the cheating version yet. Playing no-cheat 1v1 vs anything I can mop the floor with them with minimal effort. I'm not a fan of the cheating versions, as it just becomes one large macro-fest, with minimal micro necessary. I like the quick hits and micro-intensive battles of 1v1... god I wish I had a beta key.
