AI Discussion / Re: Official Beta AI
March 20, 2010, 02:17:07 AM
Starcrack 6.1.1 is not grossly overpowered or a "super bot", it's quite beatable. If you're playing the standard and still losing, it's not the AI that needs to be toned down, it's your skill level that needs to go up. Everyone's been there at some point in their SC gaming whether it's SC1 or SC2; you'll eventually get better if you train yourself.

Now to the problem; you're probably installing the AI wrong. If you have a TriggerLibs folder in your directory, get rid of it unless you mean to use the AI from it. It will overwrite any Base.SC2Dat file you have in your mods folder.
Also, make sure you're replacing the Base.SC2Dat in your Liberty.SC2Mod folder, not LibertyMulti.SC2Mod or Core.SC2Mod.

Since this is CRACKED beta, I doubt you will find the official AI anywhere. If you could, then don't you think everyone would all be using it to play or build off of? On second thought, according to what I've heard blizzard's AI sucks balls compared to the work done by turd and other scripters in this forum. I wouldn't know though, I don't have official beta.

I can only imagine the total MADNESS that the 8v8 mode will be :D

Would be pretty cool as long as someone doesent have like 1 gig of ram trying to play it lagging us down

I don't think a player's system specs would lag you down, only his connection.

4v4 is enough for me. 5v5 would already stretching it. Games would be purposeless if it was 8v8, it would be too random with that many players.

You know you can just reinstall. Simplest way. Unless you're willing to wait for someone to upload it and give a link.

Not enough Pylons / Re: bypassing max units?

I really doubt you can do this as you'd have to edit the game coding itself. Could be hacked but what for? Why do you need to go beyond 200 per player?

If changing to lower settings makes it more stable, and using higher settings causes it to crash, but playing other games is perfectly fine, then I'll have to assume SC2 on high settings is stressing your system. However, I've never experienced system failure even if my hardware cannot play a game. The game is just very slow, laggy, crashes, or just doesn't boot up at all. When you DID overclock, I hope you didn't damage the card. Even if you stop overclocking, there could be permanent damage. Why not try another game? Demo crysis or something.

Not enough Pylons / Re: Replays issue
March 12, 2010, 04:46:35 PM
Why do you need to use a launcher to view actual reps of beta players? If you were using the launcher to play AI, you'll still need to replace the AI base.SC2Dat with the original one anyway in order for those replays to work. You're getting a TEMP error because the update patches changes the Cache, you need an updated Cache.

I really doubt school comps will be able to run SC2 well, if at all. But maybe you go to some amazingly rich school with quite beefy pc setups; in that case, you could try making a copy of the sc2 directory and all of the other folders that sc2 uses, such as the battle.net folder in user>appdata>local>blizzard entertainment and the other sc2 beta folder in your documents folder. However, since school comps don't give Admin rights to students, I doubt you could modify or place those folders into the harddrive. Even if you had Admin rights, it'd be easier to just bring an install cd of the setup. If you're refering to running SC2 off a usb drive or something, I highly doubt it's possible unless you run a whole OS on that usb drive.

Even if your GPU is overheating, it's not because of your FPS. If your GPU could go beyond 30...or 60 fps, that's because it CAN. 60 fps doesn't add more heat to your GPU than 30fps if that's the rate it can process at; but stressing your GPU above its limits does. Either you've got a defective card, defective mobo, or you're overclocking. Try another game, specifically one that will put your GPU under a good amount of stress. If nothing happens, you've got a software problem.

Try deleting your Battle.net folder in AppData > Local > Blizzard Entertainment. Restart the beta and it will create a new Battle.net folder there. Make sure you back up your Cache though.

Despite what people say, I feel Zerg AI is the weakest now. Maybe because marauders now slow their targets. I originally felt Terran AI was weakest.

SC1's AI didn't target SCV's but they were intelligent in how they approached walls.

Just some food for thought.
imo SC1's AI was worse when approaching terran wall ins. Because they target the units behind the wall rather than attack the structures, they just run around outside the wall. Unless you're talking about something else.

AI Scripts / Re: Island Map

1. Perhaps I've overlooked it, but I haven't seen an Island map available yet for SC II (and would very much like to.) ie, Island Hop or BGH Islands or something along those lines.

2. Would this map be useless given the current AI's protocols and strategies?

My guess would be yes, given its lack of air units, rarely making good use of drop ships, not contesting the 2 expansion islands on Lost Temple, and the very different strategy involved in a pure island game.

Would be great, though :)

1. Because the map editor isn't out yet, and Island maps aren't very "popular" with competitive play, especially if ranked.

2. Not only would it be useless due to AI, there would be too many imba issues to work on since the transportation tech differ from race to race.

You guessed right.

SC2 Tools / Re: Earlier version of lazylaunch

2.0 is the latest version.

Where did you put lazylauch2? you should put it in StarCraft II Beta folder.

He's asking for an earlier version. He already has 2.0. And he doesn't need to put it in the SC2 Beta directory at all.

Just use one of the other launchers in this forum.
