General / Re: V0.45 out?

Almost done, added some last minute changes, it will be out later today. :)

Also would you guys be interested in a tool to make a spawn (multiplayer) edition of StarCraft II?
Basically, this will strip out all the campaign data (cinematics, audio, models, ect) from the game and only leave the multiplayer elements (assuming this is possible), should trim down the game by a couple GB, possibly making a portable edition of the game.

It's just that the main issue is "server.exe in starfriend is flagged as TR/Kazy variant". :D

Oh, sorry mate, I misread what you where saying, I didn't know that "server.exe" was flagged.
I just had a look on virustotal.com, 4 out of 43 engines flagged "server.exe", this is pretty low (9.3%), I'd say low enough to be considered (choice is the end users') a "false positive".

syk0@darkblizz is making a [Starfriend Launcher] that will make Starfriend work with any client, enUS, enGB, etc etc.  And the launcher will make the installation process more automated so it'll be less work and easier for the end user.
It should be out soon.

when is the estimated release of this tool?... I dont want to use the chinese--->english client because I dont want to download chinese client since its very big 7gb...

The tool will be released soon (a day or two), just need to do some more testing.

This tool is a temporary solution, until the guys at Star.Friend enable play on other clients (speculation is that this will be soon).

I created the tool because I too didn't want to download the ~8GB Chinese version. :)

The reports of a virus are all "False Positives", Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 didn't pick up anything.

Q: Why would your Anti-Virus flag these files as "suspicious"?
A: Because the way that the LAN crack it written, it uses detours ("hooks") to intercept system API calls and redirects them to where needed.
Anti-virus programs don't like this because it could be potentially dangerous, that doesn't mean it is!

If you would like to find out more about API Hooking read these articles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooking and http://research.microsoft.com/sn/detours

Isn't your post a bit misleading?

Server.exe doesn't do hook or detours. Just FYI.

Lol, out of everything I said you pick up one thing... :)

I never specified which file(s) use detours, nor did I point out any specific file(s) that didn't, I was merely trying to give some "general" information as to why an anti-virus program would flag some files.

I you really want to nitpick, you could point out that none of the .txt, .ini, .manifest, .mpq, ect files use detours either.

My previous post may not be 100% correct but it is neither 100% incorrect, next time I shall specifically point out the suspicious files in question. ;)

For argument sake:
QuoteStarCraft II.exe
StarCraft II.dll
SC2.dll
SC2.exe
May all or may not be considered suspicious by your anti-virus product.

We so called "nay sayers" don't have to say anything and we don't have to say anything... but I will just for argument sake...

The whole argument over the past days/weeks was that Vernam7 wasn't able to install the game b4 the 27th (today)...

1.) The screenshot he posted about installing the game (which I'm sure has subsequently been removed) was a fake, he modified the .xml files in the installer archive.
2.) Why did no one, abso-bloody-lutely no one get any confirmation of Vernam7's supposed crack? He could have just shown someone (credible, perhaps from this site or even Nibbits) what he had done and all of this would have been avoided.
3.) If he did "crack" the game prior to the 27th, please tell me why the file time/date stamps on his "now released crack" dated at 3am on the 27th of July 2010? he could have at least changed that.

Lol, just out of curiosity I decided to install SC2 OFFLINE (Note: after reading this section/post from Blackcode).

1.) Fire up the installer.
2.) Click "Install", after clicking install it will give the typical "Unable To Connect" error message (you can ignore this), however notice the yellow warning icon at the bottom of this page?
3.) Click the warning image, the installer will request an "Authentication Code".
4.) This was almost too easy, simply copy one of the keys Blackcode posted (above) for your region of SC2 (mine is "en-GB" therefore I used "G8MN8UDG6NA2ANGY6A3DNY82HRGF29ZH"), paste the code in the "Authentication Code" dialog box and click "Ok" and you are on your way to installing the game.
5.) Write down or store the code (for future reference, when installing offline).

Note: Keys are region specific!

FYI: This is not the "be all and end all" of information, this does not circumvent battle.net account authentication nor is it a crack of any sort, just a few simple steps to install the game without an active internet connection (LAN party anyone? when a battle.net emulator appears, duh! ;]) .

I second the opinion of Switcha, buy they game, it did after all cost around 100 Million USD to develop.
I do however hope there's a LAN patch so I can play with my friends without having to authenticate my account online first, in a country where Internet access is expensive and no where near world standards this is annoying to say the least.

LOL, you have to admire the BS, "release the crack on/after the 27 of July just to prove that I did", man, that brings tears to my eyes cause it's just so damn hilarious.

Just as 2g4u pointed out EVERYONE will have the game installed on the 27th, the Blizzard servers would have released the decryption key(s), thus making it infinitely easier to make a "crack" that's actually no longer required nor is it relevant after the 27th.

It's likely (I'm not 100% sure) that the retail (boxed) version will not contain encrypted files, so it's likely that come early next week that a retail version may surface online.

Another Note: Blizzard released the StarCraft 2 client for download on purpose (it was not by pure luck or chance that some random person found a magic link, this is what some of you may believe), it's to stop the servers from being raped/overloaded come release day.

I for one am not terribly concerned about having the game 7, 5 or 2 days before everyone else, come the 27th my copy will arrive at my door. Hell, we have all waited many years for the sequel to (what I consider) the best RTS of all time what's a couple of days, lets just be happy that it's finally (just about) here.

Hi all, it's been a while since my last visit to these forums (sorry, work and all).

I have been monitoring the threads posted by many users over the last couple (2) days, with regards to "Vernam7".

I would like to give my two cents on the matter.

Firstly: The so called "installation screenshot" posted by Vernam7, this is not a "fake" screenshot per-say (fake as in a photoshop'd image), however it very easy to duplicate this screenshot it by replacing "InstallCD\Global\Unpack\NotReleased.xml" in "Installer UI 1.MPQ" with a copy of "InstallCD\Global\Unpack\InstallerInfo.xml" (from the same archive). I can post some screenshots of my own if it make you all happy?

Secondly: The .mpqe files are encrypted using a (singular) key, I assume it's a different key per region (US, UK, RU, ect), you CAN NOT code a "keygen" to magically make generic decryption keys, this key (as many have said before) is acquired from the blizzard servers upon installing the game.

For example: The GB (Great Britain) version requests "http://eu.battle.net/static/mediakey/sc2-authenticationcode-enGB.txt" and/or "http://dist.blizzard.com.edgesuite.net/mediakey/sc2-authenticationcode-enGB.txt".
The US version requests "http://us.battle.net/static/mediakey/sc2-authenticationcode-enUS.txt" and/or "http://dist.blizzard.com.edgesuite.net/mediakey/sc2-authenticationcode-enUS.txt"

You can in fact "fool" the installer to skip the "Hell, it's not yet time." message by adding a few keys to the registry to fake a StarCraft 2 Installation, however this will ultimately get you nowhere in any case, cause the installer still requests the decryption key from Blizzard.

Upon clicking install (with out faked Installation):

Note: without modifying the archive ("Installer UI 1.MPQ") we will land back at the "Hell, it's not yet time." message when "Install" is clicked.

The infamous "Vernam7" image that surfaced:

After selecting an install location (Path and Size of installation are now present):

Proceeding further with the installation and you'll get the following (there's no key to decrypt the archive):

I can't say too much now (not because I don't want too but because I'm typing this from my mobile, on holiday).

I will try implement as many (useful) features (that users request) as I can into this application.

I will implement the option to select and use a folder like it was an .mpq file (optionally convert the folder into .mpq).

There will also be options to change the syntax highlighting & background colours of the text editor.

I have already implemented some semi-functional code completion and error checking for .galaxy files.

There are many more features I have added, will let you know all about them when I get back from vacation at the end of next week.

I get system error: code 2

The system cannot find the file specified.

my sc2 directory is not within the default install location. Could this be the reason?

it's because kblood removed "lazylaunch2.exe" from the archive, i suggest you go to the original thread to download the loader (http://darkblizz.org/Forum2/sc2-tools/starcraft-ii-launcher/)

Just a heads up,

I haven't forgotten about this project (I'm still working on it, as I type this message), I'm going away for a few days so there will be no updates from me.

If anyone is interested in testing the current alpha build please PM me, it's a very basic version as I haven't had much time to work on it during working hours.

  • You'll get very basic open, edit, delete and save functionality
  • I have added loading and syntax highlighting of .xml documents.
Please note: This current Alpha build is a far (not too far) cry away from what the program will eventually become (A powerhouse MPQ editor specifically targeted at StarCraft II).
