General Discussion / Re: Patch 6 is live!

Considering SCV's are the only worker exposed while building I think the nerf was un-called for. It's not like miner wars is that common.

When you first do a type of match (1v1, 2v2 arranged team, 2v2 random, etc) you have to complete 10 practice matches which set you up against a lot of different types of players to see where you should be at. After that you get put into a division, atm if you get 10 wins you most likely get sent to platinum league.

Theres 5 leagues: Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold,  and Platinum. The leagues are set up in percentages, the lowest 20% skilled players go to copper,20-40% go to bronze, 40-60 go to silver, 60-80 go to gold, and the top 20% players go to platinum. The blue posts on the beta forums do talk about them thinking of a pro league which will be invite only.

There are also divisions, divisions are way of making ladders look smaller and give players something to strive for (i.e. you'll be ranked 20th in your division so there'll only be 19 people in front of you instead of 5,000,000 people in front of you). I believe each division has 1,000 players in it, 100 in each league but I haven't been able to confirm this.

You can travel through the leagues as well, if its your first time playing Starcraft 2 then you most likely get sent to copper league but after a couple of games of you doing well it may just put you into bronze. However, no one knows exactly when this happens, blizzard is keeping it a secret of when they actually take people from one league and put them into another. Also doing bad will take you down a league.

Thank you! That is exciting. +1 to you.

What if you improve though? I mean peoples first games playing SCII are going to be pretty bad...

Can someone explain to me how this "Platinum" rating works?

General Discussion / Re: Completely useless units
March 22, 2010, 02:21:27 AM
The only one I have any complaints about in your list is the Thor. Just too slow and big to make it highly effective. It would be cool if they would bring back the Goliath and you could "Transform" 2 of them into a Thor.

BC's are still good. I would almost say better even. I spent a lot of time testing them 1 on 1 vs other units and from what I can remember only one unit beat it? It may have been an immortal.

Warp Gates are retardly good though so I'm not against it's nerf. From my impressions so far Protoss is easily the best. I think they have the best hard counters.

General Discussion / Re: Thor is kind of...unused?

I mean, the Thor is a strong unit but the size and speed of it make it pretty useless. I mean if you're playing on temple on the offensive with a group of thors and siege tanks the amount of time it takes thors to make it up the ramp is ridiculous.

I miss the Goliath.

Dammit you beat me to it.

Simple, easy to use.. I like it :).  Thanks creators.

It's still going to be a blast... but there are some complaints along the way.

- Graphics too cartoony
- Engine not as good as it could be. Really not much different the WCIII
- Most new units don't bug me but the Hellion vs the Vulture? Come on the Hellion is so generic in comparison. Not to mention Spider Mines will be super missed.
- The music not nearly as good. The guy who made the original SC sound track doesn't work at Blizzard anymore. He also made the Diablo ST's and they were all amazing.
- I don't like the huge stress on having two refineries
- I don't know if I like the obvious choices for counters. I almost think the game is too counter intensive.

Just my current gripes. Could change in time.

Nevermind, solved it, have to update the patches before applying the rest of the instructions.

How or where did you download/update said patch? Please??? I keep getting the "could not find starcraft 2 beta 0.3.0.etc" from lazyloader... Help?

I had the same problem. You just run Starcraft II right now and it will update..

I may have figured it out. I noticed there is a new patch available I hadn't downloaded yet.

Where is it installed in>?

C:\Program Files (x86)

However I tried moving it to C:\Program Files files as well since I have both. Still no dice.
