It's not a local connection. Even if you have 2 computers in the same room, you both have to connect to Bnet 2.0. This of course, does not have the low latency benefit of a direct, local connection. Its WIDE AREA NETWORK, not Local Area Network (WAN vs LAN). WAN uses your internet provider to make a connection, LAN does not.

All I know is Chaos used to give us ridiculously low latency playing games on SC, wayyyy better than playing in a normal lobby. Fuck if i know the terminology, but whatever that was, im sure sc2 will have before long
