After some trial and error and some help from people on the forums i manged to get this working and can now run the game from my USB hard drive with the 0.19 launcher and the following map pack.

Needed Files:

Here is what I did from scratch:

1) Install StarCraft II Beta on a WINDOWS XP PC (i had problems initially with the reg fixes when changing platforms so good luck if you install in win 7 and then try to run on win xp or vice versa or any vista combinations - it might work i havent tried it yet)

3) Copy and paste the installed "StarCraft II Beta" folder into your USB drive.

2) Extract the map packs, beta launcher and registry file using the links above into your game directory in your USB drive (E:\StarCraft II Beta\ - e.g. where E is your USB drive, place the maps in their own folder to avoid cluttering your game directory (E:\StarCraft II Beta\Maps\).

3) Plug into the computer you want to play StarCraft II on. Right click on the "StarCraft II Beta reg.reg" file in the game folder and choose "edit" - make sure the paths are correct for your USB drive, save and close, then run it to merge with the registry on the PC. (e.g. If your USB drive is the "F:\" drive then change all the paths from "E:\" to "F:\"

4) Incase the entry you just made doesnt have the right permissions for you, click start>run type regedit, then find the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment] folder and right click it and set full control permissions for yourself.

5) Run StarCraft II.exe once then quit it so that any registry entries that need to be created are made (im not sure about this but seems a reasonable precaution-would be helpful to know what is created if anything).

6) Use Starcraft II - Beta Launcher.exe as normal from the USB game driectory - Enjoy!  :D ;D 8)

N.B. If you are worried about being being traced (e.g. if you were using this on a computer you shouldnt have) you can just delete the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment]registry entries using regedit.
In this case you might also be interested to know that you can run SCII in a window from the options menu (F10) for extra stealth  ;) , though if you run it in non-fullscreen window the scrolling is annoying where you have to put your mouse to the endge of the window to scroll, moving the mouse out of the window wont scroll it  :( .

Thanks to "getITdone" and "paranoid" for their help.
