Stupid question about patching

Is there anyway to do patch the game? I feel so lost, I have hit up Google at least 7 different ways and found nothing. Logging in to my not activated account just says "Invalid patch version please try again later".  Anyone able to help me with this, maybe I am missing something really simple.

When you're running the game (StarCraft II.exe) should automatically start updating. If not, try to disable your firewall.

Thanks, had to turn off firewall and peerblock... although it is beyond me as to why because starcraft 2 is allowed through.
