Help / Map Cache Files
August 25, 2011, 05:31:46 PM
I'm trying to create a portable LAN version of SC2 to play from a flash drive/portable hard drive. So far, the game runs beautifully by just copying and pasting the files from C:\Program Files\StarCraft II. This works fine on most computers.

However, I've run into a problem with the map cache, which SC2 stores here
C:\ProgramData\Blizzard Entertainment\\Cache for vista/7 or here
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment\\Cache in XP. The problem is that the computers I am trying to run the game on have this directory (and the entire C drive for that matter) blocked off, which means no file creating/modification privileges.

Is there any way to make the game look for the map cache in another directory, such as its own? Ideally, there should be a way to edit one of the program files (probably SC2.exe) to have it look for Cache\ in the game directory.

General / Can we do AI on LAN yet?

Sorry if this got asked, but I can't find the answer to my question. Can we do like 2 players vs 2 AI yet?
General / Is Starfriend safe - Security Wise I mean

I was reading on a blog, and a user had to say this about the whole SC2 LAN thing from China:

"1)this is a heavy modification that needs to be done from chinese to something like english version its not an actuall english crack! just modification of mpq files that try to make it look like English!(even the developer never said ok to darkblizz users with what they did)

also this will need extra knowledge from people to do and above all, most of us dont want to scrue our installation maybe because its also legel, just to try a lan mode. when something clean and english will be available that is not altering gamefiles or has at least a restore process, then we can talk about it.

2)and most important reason, all non chinese users should know that the 90% of stolen data and spam are comming from chincese related software!
we cant be anything but extreamly suspicious when using a closed, mysterious so called "server.exe" file, about what it does! i am not saying it doesn't work in this tw version, ok it does but with what cost? how sure can you be when its not open source? (starcrack team was the best with it's emulator project), what else is gothering and transmitting too? maybe your real account?your visa data? how can you be sure 100% its not a sleeping trojan that will wake and start manimulating your system and data!????
when some people like the Chinese developers have such a "reputation" on "stealing and cyberattack" and when lan for sc2 is all that most of the users want, its pretty damn sure that will find a LOT of positional VICTIMS!

a simple antivirus search will not prove anything!
its very easy to gather system information and open backdoors and no antivirus will ever detect it, because its a damn normal software!

none knows this chinese "developer" he never talked to anybody in english about this, he has no previous record of other successful software and proven reliability to trust him, he doest "cooperate" with anyone trust worthy, so its very risky and i think users should not be exposed. you wanna play with your data and system, do it with your own risk!"

Are we taking this project for granted, or are we too quick to think this program is evil? I just want to make sure that as long as I am having fun with SC2 LAN, some other guy on the other end of the world isn't trying to have fun by draining my resources, personal resources that is.  ;D

I also agree too!
SC2 Tools / AI vs. AI utility
June 21, 2010, 11:40:36 PM
I was not sure if I should post this here, or in the AI dev. section.

I am currently interested in pitting various AI's against each other, to see how they would react towards one another, and which would come out as victor.

Is there a program or utility that could be used for such a thing?
(I searched through the forums using the search feature, but found no solid results)

Does anyone know where I could find such a program, or could you point me in the right direction?

CraniX, other people may come and create hacks if you don't. But that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to help contribute or speed up the hacking. Your sense of righteousness is undoubtedly flawed saying people should hack because eventually others will make it. If you think about it, EVENTUALLY means a lot. The less hacks, the better; ever heard of Equal Opportunities, Fairness, and Integrity? Maybe you lack those values.

You have to admit that people who lose because the other player hacked his way to victory don't feel too good about it.
Any potential point you were trying to make is kind of destroyed by the fact IT'S A BETA.

Seriously people, you do realize all your current stats are gonna end up wiped? At least if someone uses hacks right now it doesn't actually mean anything. All the ladders will get reset on release and since CraniX has put it out there we can be confident that at least this particular hack will probably be patched in the full version...

Go ahead, smite me, but Cranix.... you're an idiot. You keep saying hacks are inevitable even if you didn't make them, well that's just idiotic. I AM pissed that hacks are inevitable to come, but the personal grudge is that you support, use, create, and DISTRIBUTE them. I have every reason to dislike you and your posts. It's morons like you that are the reason that hacks are here in the first place.

Oh QQ more you ignorant wanker. It's a freakin' beta. The fact he's doing it during beta IS helpful in the long run.

It's much better than there being players out there in the real game who are winning tournaments with secret hacks nobody knows about. The fact it's out in the open is that much better. Your thinking is years behind, go talk to somebody in the security biz.

If someone doesn't do it publicly, someone will do it privately. Better to suffer the short-term use by many than the long-term exploitation by a select few.
So this actually works in multiplayer atm? Is it just a matter of Blizzard not having their cheat-busting solution up yet for the beta?

Just to let you guys know that I'm currently building an AI which at the moment defeats Starcrack 7.0 AI every single round of its play.
how can you start a game with 2 different AIs?

Strategy 0.31 has full vision of the whole map and   that is considered cheating, what I'm coding has no cheats applied, so   that's why I've only tested my AI on non-cheating AI only.
there is a non-cheating version of strategy ai 0.31 that supposedly has no vision
It works perfectly and (at least in win 7) you can install it whatever folder you want despite what the installer suggest.

Where can i download Strategy AI v 0.3 Base.SC2Data?
nvm found the link
